YUKIO OKUTSU STATE VETERANS HOME – HILO, is Hawaii’s only post-acute care and rehabilitation service provider specifically designed to serve the special needs of Veterans. Located in picturesque Hilo, Hawaii our community features dedicated short-term rehabilitation services and residential long-term placement. As the only state Veterans Home in Hawaii we are proud to serve our county’s finest.
In addition to rehabilitation services, Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home is designed to care for your medical conditions through personalized, 24-hour skilled nursing care provided by licensed clinical specialists and therapists. With oversight and coordination with physicians and nurse practitioners, our teams work hand-in-hand to provide compassionate quality care.

Post-Acute Rehabilitation
A skilled team of physical, occupational and speech therapists evaluates the rehabilitation needs of each patient and designs an outcome-oriented treatment program. The goal of our rehab programs is to help our residents attain their maximum potential and restore the abilities and confidence essential to independent living. We offer unique in patient programs to assist our residents with their maximum level of independent.
24-Hour Skilled Nursing
Yukio Okutsu state veterans home offers more than just 24-hour nursing care, we cater to both the physical and emotional health of our residents and patients. We are committed to create and maintain the highest standard of living possible for all veterans we have the privilege of serving. We provide high quality nursing and personal care, applied with courtesy and compassion. Compassion is a part of all we do for every resident in our care. We are a VA and Medicare/Medicaid certified health care community, striving to honor veteran’s through dedication and compassionate care.
Respite Care
Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home offers respite care as a short term option for families that need assistance with the highest quality of nursing care that caters to both physical and emotional health of the family member.
Hospice/End of Life Care
Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home provides our residents with end of life care in our facility that focuses on the quality of life for the resident to relieve their suffering and stress from serious illness. We provide compassionate care visitations to our families.
Assistance to Medical Appointments
Yukio Okutsu State Veterans home provides our residents with support and
transportation to their scheduled medical appointments here on the
Island.
Community Outings
Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home provides support and assistance with Kupuna
shopping days 2 times a week, attends community events to represent the facility,
outings such as; annual fishing trips residents and staff, recreational
to coconut island and holo holo scenic van rides
Personalized Activities
The Recreation Department provides an on-going activity which is designed to meet the needs of each resident. Our activity programs consist of individual in room activity visits which are designed to meet the needs and interest of each resident.
Our program includes the following: Social & Reminiscence activity visits, Indoor/Outdoor activities, wide variety of games such as; Bingo, Pokeno, Poker & Hanafuda card games, spiritual programs, creative activities, music and memory, intellectual and educational activities, beauty bar, sensory and aromatherapy activity visits, special themed holiday activities, scheduled lanai/window and virtual visits to keep our resident’s and Ohana connected.
Our activity programs are essential to each resident, to maintain their psychosocial well-being and to ensure they are provided with the best quality care they deserve.
Activities are provided that reflects the schedules, choices and rights
of our residents. It is offered 5 days a week, weekends and holidays.
Spacious Private/Semi-Private Rooms
Our facility is an inviting, home-like with open air interiors. We are a 95-bed facility that offers large private rooms and spacious semi-private rooms that are available.
Dining Services
Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home dining services provides our resident’s with Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner that meets our resident’s preferences and diet textures.
A variety of Snacks and hydration is available to our residents
throughout the day.
Our team provides our resident’s with special meals during the
holidays and special occasions.
Veteran Camaraderie
Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home is tied in with many veteran organizations and volunteers within the community. Many have and continue to support our Veterans in many ways throughout the year.
